A Continuing Archive of Global Theatre Discourse
A global dialogue between leading performance practitioners, pedagogues and thinkers from across the world about the realities of teaching drama and reimagining theatre futures.
Initiated by Drama Schools Foundation Mumbai during the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown, Unrehearsed Futures began with a simple question: how do we teach theatre online?
This ongoing collaboration with our international partners Embodied Poetics (UK), Centre for Theatre, Dance and Performance Studies (University of Cape Town), and Limbik Theatre (UK) reimagine the future of theatre across geopolitical boundaries. The discussions have spanned diverse disciplines—philosophy, medicine, science, and politics—creating a comprehensive open-access repository on theatre and pedagogy.
This living archive contains conversations with theatre practitioners from several countries including India, South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Hong-Kong, Ukraine, Canada, Australia, USA, Brazil, UK and many more.

It helps to be in conversation with folks who don’t have any reason to feel shy around —or intimidated by — this strange pursuit of “art” that we do. And Unrehearsed Futures is full of artists, I found, that have no such qualms. Participating with UF through the pandemic has offered insight into what I want finally — out of “doing art.”
Unrehearsed Futures is a hugely relevant space and very special and unique in terms of bringing together practitioners from all across the world with vastly different experiences. Each conversation is like a big adventure, even if you feel like you know the subject. It’s given me the space, outside of my own practice, to reflect in a way that I haven’t had before. It is an amazing, supportive community and I’ve come to really love the space Unrehearsed Futures creates.
